City Hunter Race

On the 23rd of March, the students studying under the Bachelor of Events Management organised a challenge race in aid of the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia. This exciting event was held as part of their fulfilment of the Event Production and Operation course. The objective of this event was to raise awareness on the urgent need to protect our fragile environment in a fun way. Through this event, students not only raised funds to help the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia in their pursuit to recover the depleting wild population of turtles in Malaysia but to also get an opportunity to enhance their event planning and management skills.

The event was conceptualised, planned, and executed by our Event Management students. This was a shining example of the BERJAYA Immersion Methodology where students get the opportunity to gain real-life, hands-on practical learning experiences, thus strengthening their academic education. This was sponsored by Brooks, JacSport, Yogur Train and Jantzen.

A total of 40 participants were flagged off at BERJAYA University College, and raced around the Kuala Lumpur city centre on foot, and also travelled on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) to complete a series of t asks. The race ended at the lookout point of the River of Life. Adik Udan, the River of Life mascot, warmly greeted the surprise participants. He was joined by Ms. Jagedeswari Marriappan, the Senior River Care Program Officer from the Global Environment Centre (GEC), who gave an interesting talk on the benefits of this urban regeneration project. An exhibit on the function and importance of this successful restoration project was on display. The event ended with the participants, together with the organisers, gathered at the untreated part of the Klang River to toss mudballs, which will help to clean the river.

This event was supported by the Ministry of Federal Territories and the Global Environment Centre. BERJAYA UC would like to extend big thank you to all the sponsors, lecturers and students who participated in this event. We hope that this event will encourage all to be more environmentally-conscious, and will work together to preserve our precious Earth.
