Department of General Studies – Launch
After over a month of promoting the mysterious “BEAM,” the launch of the Department of General Studies was finally the answer to everyone’s questions! Developed by Dr Antoon de Rycker, the Department was founded to help students, regardless of their faculty, by giving them a support system, much like how a beam of wood or metal supports the structure of building. The launch saw members of this new department taking part in games with other staff members and with some of our own students. We look forward to seeing the new department working with the other schools at BERJAYA UC!
Orientation – May Intake
Our May Intake Orientation was organised by students from the various faculties, who came together to present to the new students what BERJAYA University College is like. Centred on the theme of childhood, decorations were put together with elements of one’s typical childhood in Malaysia, such as metal containers used for school lunches, and old Nokia phones. To get the new students to participate, the students were asked to put together small drama performances. To showcase the various clubs and societies of BERJAYA UC, the Dance Club performed routines with their own choreography. We look forward to seeing how our new students bloom at BERJAYA UC!
Chaîne de Rôtisseurs – Competition
On the 11th of May, BERJAYA University College organised the Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs National Competition, which featured young chefs from various hotels around the country. The event was organised in collaboration with the Confrerie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. The goal of the competition was to “encourage and promote expertise of young chefs in tradition of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.” The first place went to Ruma Hotel and Residences, second was Le Méridien, and third was Entier French Dining Restaurant.
Proton X70 Challenge
Students from the School of Tourism took part in the “Proton X70 – Intelligence that Inspires Challenge.” They worked as a team to come up with a proposal on “How to maintain Proton X70 as lead selling position in SUV market in your city?” The second round was to conduct a community relation activity using Proton X70 as the main platform. To achieve their objectives, the students selected Generating Opportunities for Learning Disabled (GOLD) as the benefitting charity and planned the event to be held at the GOLD centre. Students teamed up with the teens from GOLD to compete for the best decorated Raya-themed hampers. They had fun baking honey cornflake cookies as well as making Hari Raya greeting cards together. The students found the interaction very meaningful as they get to understand the challenges faced by people with learning disabilities. The teens from GOLD were also given a special treat to go on fun rides in the Proton X70 where they get to experience the unique features of the car.
Honour’s Seminar Series – Frenchman’s Creek, Florida
BERJAYA University College welcomed Mr. Achal Goswami, General Manager of Frenchman’s Creek Beach & Country Club, who came all the way from Florida, United States of America for our Honour’s Seminar Series. He commenced the seminar with an activity on paper cutting to break the ice with the students. He then proceeded to give his presentation on the Frenchman’s Creek, based in Florida, where he encouraged our students to apply to work there, where they offer fun learning experience with numerous of events throughout the year. This was an excellent opportunity for our young students to gain experience internationally!
